We describe some of the challenges and key consid-erations in doing marine robotics field deployments. These ideaswere developed based on over a decade of conducting annualmulti-university field deployments in the Caribbean Sea using arange of different vehicles. We describe the logistics associatedwith running a field trial in a remote location and provide aninsight into the planning that goes into these deployments. De-ploying robots in real world environment comes with challengesand conducting these deployments away from the home baseadds to these challenges. We conclude by providing suggestionsregarding the conduct of high-value field experiments based onour experience.
