Research Interests

In general, I am interested in Computer Vision, Geomatics, and the interdisciplinary topics of Computer Science and Geomatics Engineering. A particular focus of mine is combining Computer Science with Geomatics to solve problems within each field, and to promote their disciplinary convergence. Currently, I am interested in developing methods and computational tools for information extraction, 3D mapping and modeling of real world environments using data acquired by different platforms with different sensors. Examples include airborne/spaceborne imaging using active sensors (e.g. LiDAR) and/or passive sensors (e.g. panchromatic camera), ground-based or vehicle-borne based sensing techniques (e.g. hand-held shooting, mobile mapping). An incomplete list of my interests is:

Computer Vision

Large-scale Structure from Motion, Multiple View Geometry, and Stereo Vision

Object detection, recognition and tracking, segmentation, range data processing

Statistical methods and machine learning for Computer Vision and Geomatics

Computer Vision algorithms applicable to Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing

Mobile Robotics

Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM), and 3D robot mapping

Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing

Feature extraction, data fusion, 3D mapping and change detection from high-resolution satellite imagery
real-time and close-range Photogrammetry

Geographic Information Science

Spatial data structure, spatial-temporal data mining, map matching, and Location Based Services (LBSs)

Graduate Courses

My reading lists for Ph.D. comprehensive exam cover topics in Computer Vision, Robotics, and Geomatics.

I took and audited graduate courses throughout the years for my Ph.D. studies.
