The Porcupine's Quill is not in the business of thwarting the careers of promising young authors. Many of our writers, in fact, `graduate' to large, trade houses -- many of them multi-nationals. Congratulations to the following PQL alumni! |
Michael Winter |
Michael Winter's One Last Good Look was shortlisted for the Newfoundland Provincial Book Award 2000. This award is given for the best work of fiction in the past two years by a Newfoundland writer. World rights to this title will transfer to the House of Anansi as of 31 December, 2000. The House of Anansi will release a new edition of this title in the spring of 2001. |
|
Andrew Pyper |
Andrew Pyper's Kiss Me has been purchased by HarperCollins Canada, who plan to release a new edition in the spring of 2001. |
|
Elizabeth Hay |
Elizabeth Hay's Small Change is now available from McClelland & Stewart. Ms Hay's latest novel, A Student of Weather, also published by McClelland & Stewart, was shortlisted for the Giller Prize in 2000. |
|
Steve Heighton |
Steve Heighton's two collections, Flightpaths of the Emperor and On Earth As It Is have both been purchased by Random House, who expect to re-release them as Vintage paperbacks in April, 2001. In Europe and the United Kingdom both books are available from Granta, and in French they are available from L'instant meme of Quebec City. |
|
Russell Smith |
Russell Smith's first novel, How Insensitive, has been purchased by Doubleday Canada. Mr Smith's second novel, Noise, is still available from The Porcupine's Quill. |
|
Jane Urquhart |
Jane Urquhart's early collection of poems, Little Flowers of Madame de Montespan, is now available from McClelland & Stewart under the title, Some Other Garden. Her stories, Storm Glass, are also available from McClelland & Stewart. |
