In the Intensive Care Unit, graphical user interfaces (GUI) and graphical visualization have been extensively exploited to facilitate the natural and effective representation of clinical information for patient care. This project develops an expert system for automatically processing the heart rate, blood pressure, and central venous pressure vital signs of ICU patients. The system first classifies the data and then processes it according to medical information stored in its database to draw conclusions regarding the patient's condition. It is implemented in the UNIX environment using the C Language Integrated Production System (CLIPS 5.0). The results are displayed using the Simple Raster Graphics Package (SRGP).
