An expert system is being developed for nurse workload scheduling. The implementation is object oriented meaning that every variable in the knowledge base is represented as an object. Similar sets of objects are grouped together to form classes. The system is developed using Nexpert which provides a friendly environment. The global database which handles the PDMS data is accessed to generate a schedule of tasks based on their priorities. A windowed interface is implemented using the Presentation Manager of OS/2. With proper task scheduling, nurses in the Intensive Care Unit can provide better and more efficient patient care.
