A vital sign expert monitoring system is currently being developed and implemented for a Patient Data Management System (PDMS). The objective of the expert system is to help in the detection and diagnosis of critical patient conditions, and also to warn the users in case a serious situation develops. A formal evaluation of the expert system is involved to determine whether the system meets its intended original requirements and goals, and to guarantee satisfactory performance to the users. A combination of several evaluation approaches such as the Turing test, predictive validation, sensitivity analysis and on-site tests are being used in this monitoring system evaluation.
