A new electric motor has been designed to overcome limitations of current direct drive technology, namely thermal management, low torque to mass ratio, and inaccurate torque production. A novel joint structure involves a dual actuator scheme and active cooling. Through the PRECARN TDS Project, led by MPB Technologies Ltd., this design is being finalized and commercialized.
