On the Kinematic Synthesis of Mechanisms for Production Automation

Several results on the kinematic synthesis of mechanisms for production automation systems, providing indexing and reciprocating motion, will be discussed in this seminar. In particular, a general design-oriented algorithm for the synthesis of conjugate Geneva mechanisms with curved slots and their pure-rolling cam-equivalent mechanisms will be introduced. The force-transmission characteristics of these two types of mechanisms will be compared. Moreover, the complete modelling of both meshing N-lobed elliptical gears and their rack for design and analysis purposes, by means of a suitable shaper-cutter with an involute tooth profile, is reported.
